GE15: Perak police identified hot spots with risk of riots, provocations

IPOH - The Perak Police have identified several hot spots in the state that need to be given more attention during the 15th General Election (GE15).

Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the locations were identified with the help of the Special Branch Division which took into account the risk of riots and provocations involving party supporters.

He said in order to avoid unwanted incidents, the police would increase monitoring in all the locations concerned and increase the number of members for on patrols.

"Details of these areas will be given in a special press conference later.

"However, we have made preparations including increasing the number of people in the area to ensure that the elections run in an orderly manner and in accordance with the rules of the Election Commission (EC) and the police law itself," he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department case disposal programme at the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here on Friday.

Yusri said that a total of 7,343 officers and members of the Perak police were assigned during this GE15 with 1,401 of them assigned for special operations for natural disasters and floods.

He said the police also worked closely with the EC and various other agencies to ensure that the GE15 could be conducted in a mature and disciplined atmosphere.

"So we advise all parties and competing candidates to remind each other of their supporters to obey the instructions of the authorities.

"We don't want various provocations to happen that will cause problems and unsettled situations for the public," he said.

Perak has 24 Parliament seats and 59 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats.
