KUALA LUMPUR - Veteran leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has expressed confidence that Party Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has high potential in regaining the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Wan Azizah who is said to be named as one of the PKR candidates to be fielded for the Bandar Tun Razak seat said the previous event which saw two incumbents who contested under the party’s ticket having defected will not be repeated.
"We have high potential to win. If it was me, I don’t think I will be jumping (parties),” she said when met by reporters during a walkabout at the Bandar Tun Razak food court, here, on Thursday.
On Wednesday, it was reported that PKR would be naming Dr Wan Azizah, who is also former PKR president, as a candidate for the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat.
PKR won the Bandar Tun Razak seat since 2008 through the late Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who was later appointed as Selangor Menteri Besar.
However, Abdul Khalid was sacked by PKR in 2014 after he refused to make way for Dr Wan Azizah to replace him as Menteri Besar.
In the 2018 general election, PKR once again won the seat with Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar, who then quit the party after the Sheraton Move together with Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to join Bersatu.
It is understood that Dr Wan Azizah will leave the Pandan parliamentary seat in GE15 to make way for PKR deputy president Mohd Rafizi Ramli to return to contest for the seat.
When asked about her candidacy for the seat in the election, the former deputy prime minister said the matter would be announced by the party's top leadership.
"It has to be official from the leadership," she said.
