SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issues a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds in several states in the Peninsula, Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.
The bad weather was forecasted to last until 7pm, tonight.
Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds were expected in the states of Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling and Kulim), Penang (Seberang Perai North, Seberang Perai Central and Seberang Perai South), Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar and Batang Padang), Kelantan (Gua Musang), Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu, Marang, Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jempol) and Johor in the Peninsula.
Around Borneo, the same condition was expected in the states of Sarawak (Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang) and Sabah: Inland (Sipitang, Tenom and Beaufort, West Coast, Tawau (Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Tongod, Kinabatangan and Beluran) and Kudat (Kota Marudu).
MetMalaysia’s warning was issued when there were signs of a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm/hour that was close or expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning was a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for release.
