KUALA LUMPUR - Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob saw little need of him to entertain Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call for those vying to be the next PM to debate against one another.
In rejecting Anwar's invitation for a public battle at the rostrum -- made against the backdrop of the 15th General Election (GE15) -- Ismail Sabri believed that debating the PKR president would not bring any good as Anwar would promise "the moon and stars."
"It's not our culture, it doesn't do any good. If given the opportunity to debate, one would brag on his manifesto, he'll promise the moon and the stars.
"So, there's no need for a debate...we will just form a government based on the people's mandate. After all, we will be busy campaigning in our respective constituencies," he said.
Anwar had, five days ago, proposed for all GE15 PM candidates from PH, Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional to debate against each other over policy matters.
Malaysian will go to the poll on November 19 with nomination day being set on November 5 and early voting to be done November 15. - BERNAMA
