SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) denies claims made through a viral video on the prediction of extreme whether condition at the end of October.
Its director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said through the latest observation, the weather condition in the country is being affected by the high wind concentration in the peninsula, northern Sarawak and western Sabah until the end of October.
He said the situation has the potential to cause a few humid weather in most states.
"MetMalaysia has issued a significant weather forecast on Oct 23 (Sunday).
"At the same time a low pressure system formed in the western Philippines and is expected to move towards the northwest away from the country's region," he said in a statement on Facebook on Monday.
Recently, a video went viral on social media claiming that there would be extreme weather prediction at the end of October, this year.
However, the statement said the existence of the system was found to have some effect on the state of the seas.
"Therefore, warning on strong winds and rough seas over the waters was issued at 12.30pm on Oct 24, 2022 (Monday) with strong winds between 40 and 50 kmph and rough seas with wave heights up to 3.5 expected to occur at the waters of Condore, Reef North and Layang-Layang from Oct 27 to Oct 30.
"MetMalaysia will continue to observe and notify any significant weather changes from time to time," the statement said.
