PADANG TERAP – It’s time to make room for other politicians to drive the country after two veteran leaders Tun Dr Mahathir and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attempts to seize power several times over the past decade.
Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the duo was two long-standing characters in the political arena and the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) on November 19 should not revolve around the political squabble between the two.
"It should bring a bigger agenda involving nation-building rather than the political toys of the two of them.
"I don't think the political narrative facing the general election is about the people, their agreement to meet and discuss this is purely political," he said during a press conference after the Yayasan Pelajaran Mara Education CSR Program in Padang Terap district on Monday.
In order to achieve victory, various strategies and technical matters would be made including being friendly with anyone as long as they win the election.
"It's about killing each other, that's it and there's no other story including defending the fate of the people," he said.
In the meantime, Mahdzir said, he was confident in the wisdom of the people to judge the storylines presented by Tun Dr Mahathir and Anwar over the past decades.
"These people were on good terms only at times, but look at what was given to the people in 22 months when they were both in PH.
"Previously, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was with them to form a government but finally they split up and do their thing because their goal is not to defend the people," he explained.
Last Friday, Dr Mahathir via a video clip on his social media page expressed his willingness to discuss with Anwar on GE15 cooperation.
He believed that they had the same goal and did not mind making the first step to meet Anwar.
