SHAH ALAM - Umno Working Secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan denies the reports that its President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will not defend his Bagan Datuk Parliamentary seat he won since a few terms ago in the 15th General Election (GE15).
In a report by Umno-Online, Sumali stated he did not receive any statements on the matter from the number one leader of the party.
"I never heard of it and there is no official statement from the Umno President, I take it only as a political agenda," he said.
Sinar Harian on Friday reported Zahid was expected not to contest his seat in GE15.
It was understood that he would be replaced by his daughter Nurulhidayah or his right-hand man.
On Oct 13, the son of the Deputy Prime Minister during Tun Abdul Razak's era Mohamed Tawfik Dr Ismail confirmed that he would contest against Zahid in GE15.
Tawfik represented the founder of Gerak Independent was once the Sungai Benut MP in Johor under BN in the 80s.
