SHAH ALAM - The daughter of incarcerated former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's daughter questions the Prison Department's action in prohibiting her father from issuing any statements, including campaigning for the 15th General Election (GE15).
Nooryana Najwa Najib highlighted the fact that such an order was not imposed against PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim whereas such action was not enforced against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when the PKR President was previously imprisoned.
"Why Anwar can, but Najib can't? Is it because his name is Najib?" she questioned through an Instagram post, today.
Prisons Department director (Prisons Policy) Supri Hashim said inmates who were undergoing their sentence including the former sixth prime minister were not allowed to release any statements.
He also said the department was a governmental department that was not involved with any politics and they continued to bear the responsibilities entrusted to them no matter who was the government in charge
He said all letters as well as documents released must be filtered.
It was also reported that Najib was not allowed to leave the prison to campaign for GE15.
In the Instagram post, Nooryana also posted a picture of a 2015 newspaper clipping which reported that Anwar who was then imprisoned in Sungai Buloh prison campaigned for his wife, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who contested in the by-election of Permatang Pauh.
He relayed the message which asked the voters to support Wan Azizah through a media statement which was issued by his lawyer, Latheefa Koya.
