Najib not allowed to release statements on GE15 – Prisons Department

MELAKA - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is not allowed to release any statements including matters related to the 15th General Election (GE15).

Prisons Department director (Prisons Policy) Supri Hashim said inmates who were undergoing their sentence including the former sixth prime minister was not allowed to release any statements.

He said all letters as well as documents released must be filtered.

"This includes letters sent by the family, which would be filtered by prison officers first," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after the ‘Menjangkau Abad Dinding Penjara’ exhibition opening ceremony which was launched by State Women's Affairs, Family Development and Welfare Exco Datuk Kalsom Nordin at the Bandar Hilir Prison Museum, here, on Thursday.

He stated the Prisons Department was a governmental department that was not involved with any politics and they continued to bear the responsibilities entrusted to them no matter who was the government in charge.

It was reported that Najib was not allowed to leave the prison to campaign for GE15.

Malaysia Prison Department Director-General Datuk Nordin Muhammad said the former prime minister was always subjected to the laws and regulations while he was serving his prison sentence.

Sinar Harian on Aug 23 reported the Federal Court upheld the 12-year prison sentence and the RM210 million fine on Najib regarding the misappropriation of SRC International funds.
