SHAH ALAM - As the massive flood in Pakistan subsides, the country is now focusing on flood mitigation to reduce the impact of the natural disaster.
Pakistan embassy counsellor Yasir Kayani said there was no way of stopping the natural disaster from happening and only mitigation could help.
"What will be building water storages and dams for water passage.
"We already have water storages at the provinces but the current flood we had was much more than the capacity of the storages.
"The only remedy is to build more water storages," he said.
He added that they would be more prepared if floods were to hit the country again once the dams and water storages were built.
Kayani said this was the only way as the natural disaster could not be stopped and that they could only reduce the effect of it.
The massive flood which recently hit Pakistan had claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of victims and many lost their homes.
The people in the country were currently exposed to various diseases such as dengue fever, malaria and skin diseases due to stagnant water.
