SHAH ALAM - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was essentially described at the mastermind who puppetered the controversial dissolution of parliament that was announced by caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Monday.
This was the claim made by the Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali who also remarked that it was simply irresponsible for Ismail Sabri to now blame PN after earning the ire of many over such decision.
In his statement over the matter, Azmin -- who is the caretaker minister for international trade and industry -- had inadvertently pointed out that Ismail Sabri did not honour his word when deciding to approach the Agong last Sunday to request for parliament to be dissolved.
This was so because according to Azmin, Ismail Sabri had previously made a statement that matters concerning parliamentary dissolution should be discussed with the Cabinet as Barisan Nasional (BN) is not the sole member of the ruling coalition.
"Certainly, Ismail Sabri's latest stance is at the behest of the president of Umno (Zahid). It is a common secret that it was done at the insistence of Umno.
"And now his actions to blame the PN ministers are politically motivated. He is desperate to shift the perception of the people away from Umno and BN which fail to feel the pulse of the people," Azmin claimed.
Prior to the dissolution -- which paved to way for the 15th General Election -- 12 PN ministers had written to the Agong, begging for the latter to not accede to Ismail Sabri's request.
"The real cause of instability and disharmony in the government today is the result of the power struggle between the kleptocrats and the Ismail Sabri cluster," Azmin added.
Azmin higlighted that the stand of naysaying PN ministers was a reaffirmation of the Cabinet's decision on September 21 in which the government has agreed to focus on economic recovery and flood mitigation matters.
