KUALA LUMPUR -- Umno believes that it is better for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held some time in early November so as to avoid the monsoon season.
However, the party supreme council also noted that they will leave matters concerning the polling date to the "wisdom of the Election Commission (EC)", said secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
"Also in regards to GE15, we have agreed to postpone Umno's Annual Assembly that was initially scheduled on November 23 - 26 to another date which will be announced later," said Ahmad at a press conference after council ended their meeting at Umno HQ, here, today.
He added that the meeting which was chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also dicussed on several other issues such as election machinery and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decision to accede to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's request to dissolve the parliament today.
"Umno respects the Agong's decision to dissolve the parliament which is in line with His Majesty's powers accorded in Article 40(2)(b) of the Federal Constitution.
"Umno respects His Majesty's decree and is also on the same page on how the country must not be plagued by ceaseless political uncertainity and that the mandate to vote for a stable government must be returned to the people," Ahmad remarked.
