SELAYANG - The Selangor government has, for now, maintained the decision not to dissolve its state legislative assembly simultaneously with the dissolution of Parliament.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said he will have an audience with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to brief the latter about the matter tomorrow.
"Any decision will be decided after I brief him tomorrow. If there's a change, I'll announce it later," he said during the Selangor Prihatin Iltizam Tour Carnival at Kampung Selayang Baru here today.
Amirudin, who is also the Chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Selangor, said PH remained unwilling to hold GE15 this year by risking possible flooding.
"It is better to wait after the monsoon season is over which is around February or March," he remarked.
On Wednesday, PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the three PH states namely Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang would not dissolve the state assembly if GE15 was held this year.
In his special address to announce the dissolution of parliament today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri said that he had already recomended all head of state governments -- except Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor -- to dissolve their respective DUN on the same date.
"Although several states have decided not to dissolve their respective state constituencies, it should be implemented simultaneously to ensure that the people are not burdened, in addition to the smoothness of the democratic process and saving costs," Ismail explained.
