TENOM - Preacher Firdaus Wong told the Magistrates Court here the Multiracial Reverted Muslims women's wing helps women who are being mistreated including facing sexual harassment from influential figures in the community.
Firdaus Wong, 39 said this when asked to explain by prosecution Nor Azizah Mohamad about MRM during the trial which entered its third day of sexual harassment on the famous preacher, Ebit Lew.
Ebit is facing 11 charges relating to sexual harassment of posting lewd pictures and words intending to humiliate the victim through WhatsApp app under Section 509 of the Penal Code.
MRM was previously mentioned by witness Mohd Fairuz Abu, 37, who had said that he suggested to a woman (the victim) to get in touch directly with MRM's lawyer.
In the trial, Wong was asked to explain more about the woman assisted by the MRM women's wing on sexual harassment, stating that such cases were handled by the women's wing.
"Like verbal sexual harassment, harassment through the phone app whether it is Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook other than that, obscene by employers, colleagues, family members, strangers or from influential figures in society," he said.
Wong was then asked about the assisted sexual harassment case.
"Among the women assisted by MRM is the complainant (identity withheld on court's orders) who complained to my best friend Akhi Fairuz (Fairuz) that he has received obscene messages and photographs from Ebit Lew," he said.
Earlier, in the previous trial, police officer Assistant Superintendent Salwani Mohd Hadzir as a second prosecution witness told the court that she was not aware that the mobile phone that was confiscated was related to the police report made by the woman.
"I don't know about the police report made by the complainant," he said.
The court adjourned the hearing at 4.30pm and resumed at 9.30am on Friday by continuing testimony from Firdaus as the third witness in the case.
The trial was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors, Nor Azizah, Muhammad Ilmami Ahmad, Zahida, Adibah Saiful Bahri and Nur Masrin Amalia while Ebit was represented by his lawyers comprising Ram, Kamarudin Mohmad Chinki, Timothy Daut, Kimberly Ye Wanchuin and Chen Wen Jye while the Magistrate was Nur Asyraf Zolhani.
