Masks no longer mandatory in mosques, surau starting tomorrow - Jawi

KUALA LUMPUR - The usage of face masks in mosques and suraus throughout Federal Territory, Putrajaya and Labuan is no longer mandatory starting Friday Sept 30, 2022.

Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) Director Datuk Mohd Ajib said the ruling had received approval from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and was in line with the latest Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

"However, the usage of masks in mosques and suraus is still encouraged.

"Individuals who have symptoms as well as high risk individuals such as senior citizens and children are encouraged to use masks," he said in a statement on Thursday.

On Sept 7, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar announced the usage of masks in closed areas was no longer mandatory effective immediately.

He said the decision was made based on the current evaluation by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
