KUALA LUMPUR - The Budget 2023 is scheduled to be tabled in the Parliament next week is expected to maintain the government’s core objective of rebuilding and strengthening the country’s economy post-pandemic.

Assoc Prof Dr. Nuradli Ridzwan Shah Mohd Dali from the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) believes that despite talks that the general election (GE) is around the corner, the upcoming budget will still focus on rebuilding the nation’s economy.

"(In my opinion), it might be a feel-good budget, but this should not distract us from focusing on rebuilding and strengthening the nation’s economy and ensuring that we are on the right (recovery) path after the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said during Bernama TV’s "The Brief” programme which was aired on Wednesday.

On the size of the budget, Nuradli said this year’s budget allocation is probably going to be about the same as last year’s budget, but with a slightly lower deficit compared to about 6.0 per cent in Budget 2022.

"This year, it (the deficit) would probably not be as high as the previous budget because the aim of a ‘good budget’ is not to have a very big deficit,” he added. - BERNAMA
