Malaysia, US strengthen security-related cooperation

LAHAD DATU - Malaysia and the United States have continued their relations and cooperation in the security field through the inaugural implementation of the 20-day Balance Mint 22-2450 exercise here.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) commander DCP Hamzah Ahmad said the exercise which ended today involved personnel from the Civil Affairs Team 722 (CAT 722) of the United States Special Operation Command (USSOCOM) as well as ESSCom.

"During the exercise, participants were exposed to various theories of military-civil cooperation including interaction between public security teams and communities that will contribute to strengthening relationships and positive perception towards security teams.

"From theory aspect, participants managed to apply their knowledge in the field including how to act as medical first responders," he said in a statement today.

According to Hamzah, the exercise was successfully conducted according to reference terms set by both parties.

A total of 15 personnel and officers from ESSCom, the marine police and the General Operations Force (GOF) were involved in the exercise that was conducted at the PGA 17th Battalion Camp here. - BERNAMA
