SHAH ALAM - Budget 2023 must provide adequate allocation for the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia as the majority of businesses in this country are supported by SMEs.
Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh said among DAP’s list of expectations sent to the finance ministry is to give priority to the SME industry.
"We must ensure support as they provide a lot of job opportunities in Malaysia,” she told reporters after an interview session with veteran journalist Tan Sri Johan Jaafar at Sinar Karangkraf here, today.
The DAP MP further said the SME industry had been heavily disrupted due to increase in minimum wages, insufficient workers and the amendment of the Employment Act while recovering from the after-effects of Covid-19.
She also said that the SMEs were facing multiple issues and are finding it hard to cope. "If the SME industry were to fall, a lot of Malaysians will be out of jobs,” she said.
Budget 2023 will be tabled on Oct 7, 2022.
