LIPIS - A child successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt towards a friend while on their way home after playing football at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Jeram Landak field, here, on Sunday.
Lipis District Police Chief Superintendent Azli Mohd Noor confirmed that the incident took place at about 7.15pm.
The incident was posted on social media and became viral after it was widely circulated.
The mother of the child that aided in thwarting the attempt had made a police report on Sept 26, around 1.50pm.
"Based on the complainant's statement, the victim was a friend of her child and the incident happened at 7.15pm while they were on their way home from playing football at the school field.
"The suspect was believed to have been in a red Proton Wira vehicle however, they did not manage to obtain the license plate," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Azli said the suspect fled after he failed to kidnap the victim.
"The case is being investigated under Section 363/511 of the Penal Code," he said.
Azli advised the public not to take action by themselves and to immediately report it to the police if they had any information or saw suspicious individuals in their neighbourhood areas.
"Any information could be channelled to the Lipis District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 09-3121999," he said.
