Sarawak wins third consecutive Sukma women team bowling gold medal

PETALING JAYA - The Sarawak women's bowling squad continued their dominance in the sport as they won their third consecutive Malaysia Games (Sukma) gold medal in the team event today.

Gillian Lim Siew Giok, Asya Dania Azree, Lavina Kho Jia Jie, Nur Hazirah Ramli and Nur Aina Kamalia Abdul Ayub came together to knock down 5,882 pins at Sunway Megalanes here to take the gold, while Perak, represented by Alya Addini Zulmari, Tuan Nurin Ellina Tuan Zamzuri, Jessica Ting Shuet Yee, Nuratiqa Syauqina Hasmadi and Nor Baitul Ayu Atisya Mohamad Ayob had to be satisfied with the silver medal with 5,560 pinfalls.

Bronze went to Selangor with a pinfall of 5,508 pins through Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee, Nur Diyana Jalaluddin, Nurdayini Iman Noor Azrin, Aneesa Deyas Asri and Nur Nais Falilnesa Isman.

Commenting on the achievement, national athlete Gilliian said that the team had been disciplined during training in the mission to defend the gold and ensure that the squad continued to deliver for their state.

"We as a team don't want to give up, even though this is my last Sukma, today's gold has given me confidence that my two teammates are able to defend the championship in the next Sukma.

"Our mission is not yet complete as there are still masters events to fight for," she told reporters tonight.

Meanwhile, the men's category saw the Federal Territories team comprising Matthew Ong Tzi Ming, Ahmad Azriq Izamudin, Shaqeem Izwan Teh Shahrul Hafiz Teh, Haikal Hazlan and Muhammad Hazim Alhanafiah bagging gold after knocking down 6,029 pins while the silver went to Sarawak with 5,884 pinfalls through Abnor Loo Chun Lik, Tsen Fan Yew, Mohd Zuhayr Redza Noor Azrul, Musayyar Khalid and Abang Afiq Yazid.

Terengganu represented by Wan Muhammad Zarif Ikram Wan Mazlan, Muhammad Zafran Yahya, Muhammad Alif Syafiq Halim, Muhammad Alif Syafie Halim and Ahmad Hazim Syahmi Nik Mat had to settle for bronze after scoring 5,842 pins. - Bernama
