SHAH ALAM - Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) together with the Human Resource Management Division, Selangor State Secretary Office (BPSM, SUK) launch the inaugural Selangor Aerospace Apprenticeship Programme (SAAP).
The programme held in collaboration with GE Engine Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd (GE Malaysia) aimed to engage, develop, and enrich young pool of talents to join the aerospace industry in MBI’s efforts to build a sustainable aerospace talent supply chain for the state.
MBI Selangor chief executive officer Norita Sidek said MBI was going back to basics by addressing one of the key challenges faced by the industry, which was the shortage of talent to propel the Selangor-based aerospace industry into its pre-pandemic growth and beyond.
MBI’s partnership with GE Malaysia and BPSM, SUK would provide on-the-job training to over 50 apprentices in the country, she added.
The launching was held during the opening ceremony of the Selangor Aviation Show 2022 at the SkyPark Regional Aviation Centre, Subang, on Sept 8.
The event saw the handover of a mock placard to mark the collaboration witnessed by Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, accompanied by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz as well as BPSM, SUK representative Siti Azrah Mohd Ibrahim.
Norita said the programme included engine maintenance and technical engineering training in mechanical and electrical systems, adding that some of the technical engineering training will be held in other GE facilities throughout the world, the majority of it will take place in Malaysia.
"Not only that, but we also formed a collaborative partnership with ten Selangor-based aerospace companies like GE Malaysia, Spirit AeroSystems Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and other main Tier 1 and local large companies to facilitate in harnessing the industry’s strengths and reducing its inefficiencies by establishing the Selangor Skills Framework Platform (SSFP), a one-stop platform providing access to the employment skill requirements and career pathway,” she said.
MBI Selangor is the key driver of the economic thrust under the Rancangan Selangor Pertama (RS-1) launched by Amirudin Shari in July, this year.
Selangor's aerospace and aviation industry has been identified as one of the nine focus sectors for Selangor's economic growth from 2021 to 2025.
