Septuagenarian suffers severed finger after beaten by son with walking stick

BESUT - A 71-year old man’s finger was severed after he was beaten up by his son with a walking stick in an incident at Kampung Pengkalan Sentol, here, on Wednesday.

The 50-year-old suspect's aggressive action had also caused the victim to suffer injury to the back of the head.

Besut police chief Superintendant Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident came to light when the victim went to his other son's (the complainant) house at about 7.30am, the same day and told the complainant that the suspect had hit him (victim) on the head, left eye and right hand.

Abdul Rozak said the complainant had then called his neighbour and brought the victim to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu to receive treatment.

"The Orthopedic specialist who examined the victim confirmed that the latter's right thumb was severed.

"The victim also received stitches on the back of his head and is still receiving treatement at the hospital,” he said.

Abdul Rozak said the incident was believed to have occurred when the suspect suddenly went beserk after the victim refused to give him money.

The suspect had then beaten up the victim, he said.

"The suspect was detained at about noon on Wednesday and the result of his urine test found that he was positive for methamphetamine.

"Police also seized a rattan walking cane believed to be used to hit the victim,”he said.

He said a remand order application against the suspect has been made on Thursday and the case was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
