SHAH ALAM - Malaysian P-Hailing Delivery Riders Association (Penghantar) calls for the government to provide subsidies for motorcycle maintenance for p-hailing riders in the 2023 Budget next month.
Penghantar President Zulhelmi Mansor said the request was made to reduce their burden of bearing the maintenance costs for the vehicles that provided their livelihood.
"We hope the government would provide more attention towards the welfare of p-hailing riders.
"One of our requests is for motorcycle maintenance to be subsidised.
"We also hope for continued support with the social security scheme introduced in last year's budget which can be further strengthened," he said to Sinar Harian on Wednesday.
Zulhelmi stated the recommendations took into account the risks of riders who were always exposed to danger and required them to be protected during their work.
He also voiced his grievances that p-hailing drivers had a harder time securing bank loans for cars or houses.
"The job not being permanent by nature had caused loans to be difficult to acquire.
"However, at the same time, they have their desires to own assets such as houses or cars.
"I hope that the government would work towards helping us get out of this problem," he said.
He said the welfare of p-hailing riders was important for the government to pay attention to, because the service had made an impact on the public's ease.
