SHAH ALAM - Prisoners should not be given any special treatment based on their rank and social status.
The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) in a Facebook post today said biased treatment of prisoners will affect the image and transparency of the Prisons Department in the eyes of the public.
"Prisoners are entitled to have proper medical services and treatments when necessary.
"However, it is inappropriate for prisoners to be given special medical treatment based on rank and social status," ithe party wrote.
On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob instructed the Health Ministry to provide the best treatment to Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is serving his jail sentence at the Kajang Prison upon knowing the latter’s health condition.
Earlier, during the proceeding of Najib’s 1Malaysia Development (1MDB) trial, senior deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram informed the court that the former prime minister would be referred to Kajang Hospital.
This was after the Pekan MP’s new high blood pressure medication had caused his blood pressure to reach a dangerously high level.
His special officer Muhamad Mukhlis Maghribi said doctors have also found several new ulcers in Najib’s stomach based on tests carried out on Saturday.
