SHAH ALAM - Taxi drivers are hoping for one-off assistance from the government in next year's budget.
The Shah Alam Taxi and Car Rental Association chairman Yazid Mohd Yusof said most of the taxi drivers in the city were affected after the lockdowns.
"The income is there but it's not that much, it's quite difficult to even get RM40 per day," he said, adding that they still need to pay for taxi permits and rentals.
He further said they are hit further by the rising cost of living and increased in overnight policy rate (OPR) for the third time this year.
"It will certainly burden us further," he told Sinar Harian.
Yazid also hoped that the 1Malaysia Taxi Assistance Cards worth RM800 would be extended to refill gas at any Petronas stations.
"We hope the government can continue to provide fuel assistance to taxi drivers. Back in the days of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, he gave various aid including subsidies for tyres and fuel.
