KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has decided to contest in at least 15 Parliamentary seats including in Sabah and Sarawak in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Its deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said the party would focus on defending the Muar Parliamentary seat that was held by its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
However, she said any decisions made were subjected to the discussions with the coalition parties in GE15.
"In the situation where Muda's participation in GE15 was with a coalition, the target number of Parliamentary seats is not more than 15 nationwide.
"We will not go more than 15 Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) government parties’ seats,” she said at a press conference after the Muda Electoral Conference here on Tuesday.
Amira who is also the Muda Election Committee chairman said the party was not giving priority in obtaining many seats and instead their focus was on the issues of the public.
"Muda does not want a lot of seats but to focus on giving victory to the public and add value to the opposition block," she said.
Meanwhile, she said Muda has announced that all its members at all levels could suggest the names of candidates for the committee evaluation.
"The criteria for the selection process for Muda candidates is to prioritise women leadership and youths who are credible and progressive," she said.
