SERDANG - My determination to help the country did not shatter despite a barrage of political attacks on me, said former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he served as a Prime Minister during the most challenging times when the whole nation faced the Covid-19 pandemic.
"It is all about saving people’s lives and bringing food to their table with no one being left behind.
"It struck my mind that the Almighty God must have trusted me into the position of Prime Minister during the most difficult of times with one single mission that is to help the people overcome all the hardships and lead the nation in an unprecedented crisis.
"That is why, despite a barrage of political attacks against me personally, I set my mind and soul only on helping the people and steering the country clear from the Covid-19 pandemic and reviving the economy,” he said.
Muhyiddin, also the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN), said he did not want to take advantage of the principle of integrity just to maintain his power and position.
"I don’t want to comment more on the interference against the Perikatan Nasional government and me before.
"Suffice it to say that these disturbances happened simply because I didn’t want to go with the flow of other parties’ wishes as the Prime Minister at that time.
"If I did, I would have to compromise the principle of integrity just to maintain power. I don’t want to choose that path because I know it will lead me in the wrong direction,” he said.
Muhyiddin stressed that Perikatan Nasional put the people and the country first before itself.
He said this today during his speech at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Convention in Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS) Serdang, Selangor.
