SHAH ALAM - Special Functions Minister Datuk Abd Latiff Ahmad has told PKR's number 2 Rafizi Ramli to show proof of a woman he claims to be his wife involved in the controversial RM9 billion littoral combat ship (LCS) project.
In a statement, he further said he is ready to be investigated over the matter.
"As a member of the Cabinet, I am ready to be investigated to prove the truth of what I said.
"Stop spreading slander," he said.
Earlier, Rafizi had challenged Ramli challenged Latiff to sue him and Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation (BHIC) over the identity of a woman who allegedly misappropriated funds from the project.
Rafizi had previously said the woman, Zainab Mohd Salleh, was Latiff’s second wife, adding that BHIC’s recently declassified audit report also named Zainab as Latiff’s spouse.
However, Latiff said he is being attacked by Rafizi as GE15 approaches.
"Rafizi also made allegations that I have a second wife named Zainab Binti Mohd Salleh who had a defence contract worth tens of millions of ringgit when I was the deputy defence minister.
Latiff further claimed that Rafizi was hiding a fact from the forensic report stated" "Notice to the Reader. In compiling this report, we have relied on oral and documentary representations made to us by people associated with the issues relating to our review.
"We were unable to assess the veracity of these representations," Latiff wrote in his statement.
He further claimed that Rafizi had used an unsigned draft and whose content could not be verified.
"I have given an explanation over the matter," he said, adding that Rafizi continues to press on the matter.
He further said: "whatever Zainab does has nothing to do with me. I was the deputy defence minister from 2009 until 2013 and the LCS contract was on 17 July 2014.
"I did not play any role in the LCS contract. My family did not get any defence or supply contracts," he further said.
