KOTA BHARU - The Kelantan Health Department (JKNK) has ordered two premises shuttered as they did not meet the set cleanliness standards during 'Operasi Bersepadu Premis Bersih' which was carried out around the district yesterday.

Its director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said 54 JKNK officers inspected about 50 eateries and restaurants located around Bandar Kota Bharu, Pengkalan Chepa, Jalan Pantai Cahaya Bulan, Jalan Bayam and Jalan Kuala Krai as they were popular with the public.

"The two premises were ordered to close for a maximum of 14 days under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983," he said in a statement today.

Dr Zaini said the JKNK also issued a total of 116 compound notices to premises owners and food operators for various offences under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.

According to him, a total of 84 compound notices were issued for offences under Regulation 32(1)(b), which is the failure of food handlers to wear aprons, shoes, head coverings and so on, while handling food.

"We are always committed to ensuring that the cleanliness of the food premises is always at a satisfactory level. Various activities have been carried out to ensure that the level of hygiene and food safety is always improved from time to time," he added. - BERNAMA
