SHAH ALAM - The United Nations' (UN) victory for the Palestinians is just a tokenism with no solution of conflict.
Fellow of the Royal Historical Society United Kingdom (UK) Professor Dr Abd Al-Fattah El-Awaisi said the de facto UN recognition of sovereign state that Palestine won was a token just to silence some voices.
"This victory is not a real initiative to solve problems, basically this is just managing the conflict rather than solving it.
"These tokens are just to silence some voices, either human, Muslim or Arab voices," he said in an exclusive interview with Sinar Daily on the Palestinian Conflict Shifting Perceptions.
Commenting further, Al-Fattah said when the partition happened, his family including other refugees were provided tents to live in.
"As a Palestinian, I lived for 18 years in misery. As a refugee, I know what UN did, so personally and academically, I look at this as tokenism," he said.
Al-Fattah also claimed that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) did nothing to help the Palestinians.
"All I see was the establishment after the burning of Al-Aqsa mosque on Aug 21, 1969.
"After the burning, they decided the Muslim leader to organise the OIC.
"What has the OIC done? I'm sorry to be frank but zero, they did nothing," he stressed.
The de facto UN recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state was unanimously adopted by the 193-member UN General Assembly after Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas requested that the organisation granted Palestine its long-overdue "birth certificate".
