LIMBANG - Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today called on teachers in the state to join in the creation of quality human capital to drive Sarawak towards achieving the developed state status by 2030.

He said with the various resources available in Sarawak, the state had been viewed as having the potential in new technology including producing hydrogen and green energy.

"However, currently we have not been able to add value to our human resource as this depends on the quality of the young Sarawakians themselves.

"Let the teachers and I (as the state’s Premier) together produce chemical specialists (for this purpose),” he said when officiating at the 51st State-Level Teacher’s Day celebration, here.

Abang Johari said teachers needed to raise their capability and potential so that the students could become the cyber power and brain power in order to enhance their dignity and image in taking Sarawak forward.

"With high-quality contribution of the teachers, I very much hope that our students, particularly in Sarawak, will become excellent individuals who are comparative with others across the world,” he said.

Abang Johari also said that teachers’ important contribution could be seen in the excellent performance of Sarawak students in the SPM and STPM 2021 examinations.

He, however, reminded teachers to always be prepared to accept change and to raise their respective competence to help develop this country further through a strong national education system based on sound knowledge and good cultural values.

"What they implement in school will have an effect on the efforts to produce generations of competitive individuals at the state, national and global levels,” he said.

At the event, Abang Johari also presented the Tokoh Kepimpinan Pendidikan Negeri Sarawak (Sarawak State Education Leadership Personality Award) to Datuk Suliaman@Sulaiman Wak and Eminent Teacher Award to Phang Sin Nan. - BERNAMA
