KUALA LUMPUR - A replica of the longest Malaysian flag-based special costume worn by the late Datuk Sudirman Arshad is among his personal collections which can be seen up close at the Fahrenheit88 shopping centre here in conjunction with the National Month.
A replica of the iconic costume is now on display at the ‘Warisan Sudir: Tribute To Asia's No. 1 Entertainer’ exhibition that takes place on the second floor of the mall.
The National Archive of Malaysia’s Statesmen Archive Division director Hanizah Jonoh said the 120-metre costume was worn by the singer while performing at the closing ceremony of the 15th SEA Games on Aug 31, 1989, at the Merdeka Stadium.
"The original costume (the longest Malaysian flag) is being kept by the National Archives but is not in a suitable condition to be brought out and displayed to the public for now.
"So Fahrenheit88 made a replica with a similar size and material to give the public a chance to see this iconic costume up close,"he told Bernama at the exhibition's opening ceremony here today.
The exhibition was officiated by the Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah who also visited over 60 personal collections of the talented entertainer.
Among the other collections on display were actual stage costumes that were worn by the celebrity while performing, ‘songkets’ worn during photography sessions, as well as hats and album covers.
Hanizah said the exhibition would also highlight Sudirman as a patriotic icon of the country as he was known to possess a high spirit of patriotism, which was often expressed during his performances.
The exhibition is being held from Aug 12 to Sept 30 in conjunction with the 65th National Day. - BERNAMA
