SEPANG - The Immigration Department will expand the use of the auto-gate system at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to foreigners holding a long-term visit pass and expect to use it within a months’ time.

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the initiative was to further improve the efficiency of the management of the entry of foreigners into the country.

"Perhaps, in a month, foreigners who hold long-term passes in Malaysia, whether they are still studying, working or married to a local, are expected to be able to use the auto-gate system which is currently used by Malaysians,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after an engagement session on with tourism agencies under the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry at KLIA, here on Monday.

However, Khairul Dzaimee said it depended on the type of passport they possessed.

"Only passports with a chip and comply with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) can use the auto-gate.

"This is expected to speed up the entry and exit processes at KLIA," he said.
