PARIS - Wildfires in northwestern France's region of Brittany that broke out on Saturday have burned more than 300 hectares of land and forced evacuations in some cities, Xinhua quoted a report by French daily newspaper Le Figaro on Sunday.
According to the report, 225 hectares of land have been burned in the city of Brasparts. Local authorities were quoted by the report as saying that more than 200 firefighters are on-site as the fire is not under control.
In the city of Brennilis, 15 hectares of land were burned. 40 firefighters are on-site and the fire is stable, said the report.
Firefighters from other regions of France were mobilised, said Le Figaro, adding that farmers have also helped the firefighters combat the wildfires.
From Saturday to Sunday, 75 hectares of land were already burned in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region.
In the city of Erdeven in the department of Morbihan, 25 hectares of land were burnt on Sunday and at least 300 people were evacuated from 30 houses, including a castle and a campsite, said Le Figaro.
At least 15 cities in the department of Morbihan were affected by the wildfires on Saturday, said local authorities, adding that the severe drought and shifting winds facilitated the spread of the wildfires. - BERNAMA
