Young Malaysians to play von Trapp children in 'The Sound of Music'

The Sound of Music International Tour is directed by three-time Tony Award-winner and Broadway veteran Jack O'Brien, choreographed by Danny Mefford and has Music Supervision by Andy Einhorn.

Young Malaysian talents will star in The Sound of Music broadway production for the coveted role of six children which are Gretl, Friedrich, Kurt, Marta, Brigitta and Louisa in the von Trapp family, at Istana Budaya starting from Dec 27 this year.

The children aged six to 14 years old auditioned for the role, and showcased their talent in acting, singing and dancing. Throughout the musical's run, they will perform in rotation.

The talents are Kimaya Peiris, Olivia Leong Yue Shuen, Nur Lily Armani Saiful Bahtiar who will play Gretl.

Meanwhile, Allegra Hew Ai Ping, Wan Emma Rose Wan Mohd Fyzaal, Olivia Wood will be portraying Marta. Louisa will be played by Chloe Siaw, Isabelle Ho and Doreen Yip.

The role of Kurt will be carried out by Sean Lee, Lafayette Victor, and Norman Ong while Brigitta will be played by En Huang, Natasha Tan and Vern Faye Yeoh.

Lastly, Friedrich will be played by Izz Quedy Akhirudin and Christian Duvan Garry Malo.

The Sound of Music is the first international musical to return to Malaysia after a 2.5-year hiatus and it is expected to rev up the live entertainment and musical theatre scenes in the country.

The timings of the show is at 8:30pm on Tuesday to Friday, 3pm and 8:30pm on Saturday and Sunday it starts at 1pm and 5pm with the duration of 155 minutes with 20 minutes intermission.

As for the prices of the ticket, it has eleven categories ranging from RM320 to RM630 depending on the chosen category.

The story is based on the true event of Maria who is a fun-loving governess who changes the live of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by reintroducing them to music, culminating in the family's flight across the Austrian mountains as tensions rise prior to World War II's outbreak.

The Sound of Music touches hearts of all ages with its unforgettable score and the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical theatre stage, including My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Edelweiss, The Lonely Goatherd, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music.

The original 1959 Broadway production of The Sound of Music received five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and is widely regarded as one of the world's most beloved musicals.
