CAAM, AAIB to conduct thorough investigation into crash, says Transport Minister

SHAH ALAM - The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and Air Accident Investigations Bureau (AAIB) will be investigating the light aircraft crash thoroughly in accordance with Part XXVI Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong yesterday said the incident was tragic and the agencies would do everything within their power to get to the bottom of it.

"It is very tragic for this incident to have occurred and we must do everything we can to ascertain the causes and ensure more safety.

"I have been informed that one pilot of the crashed Piper 28 aircraft during a night training flight at Sungai Pinji, near Medan Gopeng, Ipoh, has perished.

"The deceased co-pilot is now being treated for head injuries at the hospital after being extracted from the crash site," he said in a Facebook post last night.

CAAM in a statement had also confirmed the crash involved a light plane which was a night training flight aircraft and CAAM Traffic Control Tower received a mayday call at 8.07 pm.

Two pilots were involved in the crash which took place at Jalan Dr Nazrin Shah, Sungai Rokam, Medan Gopeng last night, and one of them was killed in the incident.

The dead victim was identified as Fajim Juffa Mustafa Kamal, 52, of Semenyih, Selangor and the injured victim was Muhammad Din Fikri Zainal Abidin, 62, of Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.
