SHAH ALAM - The remains of former Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, who died last night were brought to the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque in Shah Alam for Selangor residents to pay their last respects ahead of the burial.
Khalid’s remains were taken to the Saidina Umar Al Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara for funeral prayers with family and close friends.
Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who was also present had decreed that Khalid will be laid to rest at the Shah Alam Royal Mausoleum.
Khalid died at 11pm on Sunday at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was present at the mosque to pay his last respect to the late Tan Seri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Amirudin told reporters that the Selangor state assembly was delayed by 30 minutes at 2,30pm to show their last respect to Khalid.
He praised Khalid for his contribution in the state with substantive changes in the administration as inspiring the development of Klang River.
He described Khalid as a strict leader and someone who prioritised time and processes. "His instructions and orders has always been a compass for those who used to work with him.
"Take it from me, I was one of the officers who needed to frequently report to him on the issues related to state administration," Amirudin said.
Khalid was the Selangor MB from 2008 until September 2014, a month after he was sacked from PKR after repeatedly refusing to vacate the post.
He joined PKR in 2006 and became treasurer-general. In the 2008 general election, he was elected the Ijok assemblyman and MP for Bandar Tun Razak and became menteri besar when Pakatan Rakyat gained control of Selangor.
Khalid was a kind, honest and selfless person
Meanwhile, Selangor Umno liaison chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar described Khalid as an "honest and a selfless" person.
"He was an honest person and was not selfish. We were in a different political party but were still friends and met to discuss issues,” he told reporters.
Khalid's press-secretary Arfa'eza Abdul Aziz said Khalid was the best employer she had as he was honest and straightforward
"Whatever he said to me was also what he told others. So there is no room for misunderstanding in terms of carrying the duties,” she said when met at the burial ceremony.
She also said that Khalid was a no-nonsence guy during his younger days and mellowed when he was appointed the Selangor MB.
"He was cool and what made it easy for me was that he understood how the media worked and respected that.
"He had no issues of being approached surprisingly by the press and he answered them honestly,” she said.
Generally, she said Ibrahim was just a friendly, approachable person and generous.
"He is not vindictive nor judgemental. He would not judge you by the way you dressed or the way you practiced your religion," she said.
