ALOR SETAR - Barisan Nasional (BN) decision to go solo in the 15th General Election (GE15) is not final yet due to the inconsistent political dynamic.
Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan said the final decision would be finalised according to the suitability of the current situation apart from the tendency to win GE15.
He said the position for BN to face GE15 alone as of today remained the same but did not rule out the possibility that it would change at the last minute.
"So far the party has already decided that BN will go solo but that is only until today since the political situation is not static. So, we have not decided on this yet.
"We might have a different view tomorrow and we will change it accordingly based on the situation, the important thing is that we want to win. How to win? Through our strategy and tactics," he said at a press conference after holding a meeting with the election machinery and Kedah Umno Division leadership here on Saturday.
Mohamad said based on the possibilities, Umno had assessed the party's position in each state to monitor the readiness of BN’s machinery through a series of tours until mid-August next year.
"We made an internal report of our party first. Let's see how the situation is, and the position of each state through a detailed study. What do we need to do in each state and the approach varies because politics now cannot be like before?
"For example in Kedah, Pas and BN seem to be in a neck-to-neck race so it's hard to say. However, from my observations, the party's machinery presents a convincing strategy, but we need to be careful not to make a mistake," he said.
Mohamad said the readiness and strategies that would be implemented by the Umno Division in Kedah and Perlis were satisfactory and they were ready if GE15 was held.
"We will go to each state to evaluate each area and see the possibility of winning or losing in that area. We must explore so we don't overlook the important things that might cause us to make the wrong move," he said.
Mohamad said that the report of each Umno Division would be presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to ensure whether Umno was ready to face GE15.
"Many people say they want to hold GE15, but is the party ready? This is the report that will state the readiness of the party, so that we don't make the wrong move. We have not discussed the selection of candidates yet," he said.
Mohamad saidafter Perlis and Kedah, the tour series would continue in Melaka, Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Perak until all 14 states were completed.
