KUALA LUMPUR - #RasuahBusters continues its movement in spreading awareness of anti-corruption by organising a special forum dubbed ‘Ketirisan Pemusnah Kesejahteraan Pekerja’ which focuses on corruption in the workplace.
Among the panellist invited to the forum were UNI-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) president Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) president Mohd Effendy Abdul Ghani, freelance preacher Datuk Husni Abdul Rahman and C4 Centre Legal Researcher Arief Hamizan.
During the forum held at Vida Bukit Ceylon, here, Rasuah Busters Chief Executive Officer Nurhayati Nordin said the purpose of the forum was to highlight the issue of corruption in the workplace that was now conducted rampantly among the members of society.
"This is a platform for the people to obtain the important information as to how ‘leakage’ happens and what will happen next if Section 17 (A) is not being observed properly.
"Together we unveil the truth and look for solutions concerning corruption in the workplace, especially in the private sectors,” she said during her opening speech at the forum today.
In the same development, Shafie shared that only seven per cent of the union has a trade union while the remaining 93 per cent do not.
"When there is negotiation among companies to renew the agreement, the employers will come up with various excuses to deny the rights of the workers and the money is not being channelled to the worker.
"When leakage happens in the workplace, the welfare of the employees are not taken care of because there is no check-in balance and we can see many loopholes in the profit and loss account of the company,” he said.
Meanwhile, Effendy said that the leakage among workers usually involved irregularities and this is where the role of government took place.
"To balance out the employees’ needs, it is important for the employers to engage with the government to ensure the welfare of the workers are taken care of,” he said.
Meanwhile, Malaysian political cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, or Zunar was also present at the forum for the launch of his anti-corruption poster, which had the same vision and mission with #RasuahBusters to combat corrupt practices in the country.
