KUALA LUMPUR - Former national athlete Zulkifli Mohd Yatim died of nose cancer at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) today. He was 59.
National Athletes Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) chairman Datuk Noorul Ariffin Abdul Majeed said the 110 metres hurdles gold medallist at the 1989 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games died at 7.40am.
Noorul Ariffin said Yakeb today contacted the late athlete's wife who said her husband's remains would be buried at Kampung Berisu, Simpang Empat, in Alor Gajah, Melaka beside his mother's grave as was requested by Zulkifli.
"The widow confirmed Zulkifli's death when contacted today. Let us all pray that his soul will be placed among the true believers," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Zulkifli is survived by two daughters, aged 18 and 28.
The Melaka-born athlete was among the 12 national gold medallists at the 1989 Sea Games. - BERNAMA
