SHAH ALAM - MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said his party is way better than DAP to serve the public as they are "sincere, not extremist and we walk the talk".
This comes after Wee had said that the recent Melaka and Johor state elections showed the Chinese community was in favour of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and its component MCA, stating that BN won 21 seats out of 28 seats in the Melaka polls and 40 out of 56 seats in the Johor polls.
He claimed there are signs that the coalition is recovering from its plunge in 2018’s general election.
But Wee told Sinar Daily Politically Frank that he cannot take the results for granted.
"I cannot take this for granted because that happened in Johor, at that particular time. For the next general election, the scenario might change so I cannot assume that whatever happened in Johor will repeat in the GE15,” he told
He also said the country's economy and stability are two major issues MCA would address for the upcoming elections as they focus on maintaining the country's stability.
On seat allocation within Barisan Nasional component parties, Wee said his party will wait for seat negotiation but added that MCA would not mind sacrificing seats to assure the victory of BN.
"As a party, we are willing to help each other.
"To me, we have not even come to the stage where we need to decide how many seats will be given to my party and other parties. So there’s no issue where we will sacrifice seats or otherwise,” he said.
As for the Big Tent approach, he said that is a show put up by PH and it is not a big threat to MCA and BN.
He added that Umno should give the reins to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri for him to lead BN following Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz’s view that Umno President Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi should facilitate Ismail Sabri to be party president.
"This is Umno’s internal affair but as far as BN is concerned, recently Umno had endorsed our Ismail Sabri to be the icon for the general election. So let our PM lead us and I believe he will be the next PM if given the mandate,” he said.
MCA and DAP have been arch enemies for decades.
Wee and former DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had a live debate last November on the undersea submarine cable repair cabotage policy debate and other issues over the years.
After the debate, DAP's Ong Kian Ming claimed that Wee had misled the public with inaccurate facts or by hiding some crucial information during the live debate but Wee shot back stating Ong was the one "factually wrong".
In March this year, the two parties sparred over the Bahasa Malaysia fluency within their candidates, which sparked from Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong’s remarks that his party candidates had better multicultural credentials than MCA.
Liew's claim was refuted by MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon, who claimed Liew was out of ideas for critising on the language proficiency of MCA candidates.
