KUALA LUMPUR - The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has detained 81,706 individuals for various drug-related offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Poisons Act 1952 and Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
PDRM secretary, Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the number of arrests was a part of 69,648 cases from January to June this year.
She added during the same period, police also seized 10,464.20 kilogrammes (kg) of various types of drugs, 2,394.91 litres of liquid drugs, 69,132.69 kg of ketum leaves, and 44,809.30 litres of ketum water, estimated to be worth RM262 million.
"In the meantime, PDRM also busted six illegal drug processing laboratories with the arrest of 18 individuals.
"Action was also taken under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988 where police have confiscated the syndicate's assets worth RM79.2 million, and of the total, assets worth RM9 million were forfeited," she said in a statement today.
Noorsiah said a total of 997 individuals were nabbed under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) 1985 in the same period.
She added that PDRM would continue to take action to curb drug abuse and trafficking activities and hoped that the public would continue to channel information on the crime to the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department hotline at 012-2087222. - BERNAMA
