SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) will have its triennial delegates conference for two days starting tomorrow.
The meeting is held due to objection to the diversity of trade unions in organisations (Multiplicity of Unions).
Its secretary-general Kamarul Baharin Mansor said on 26 June, the MTUC General Council Meeting was held to discuss and provide feedback to the Government on the Trade Union Act 1959 (Amendment) 2022.
"Majority of General Council members gave their views and recommendations in ensuring that the amendment shall continue to elevate the union movement among workers in Malaysia.
"The decision will be debated and delegates will have the opportunity to express their views at MTUC’s 42nd Delegates Conference," he said in a statement.
Kamarul also stated that MTUC had voiced out to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M.Saravanan regarding the decision made which was to protest the existence of trade union diversity.
"The Honorable Minister of Human Resources has given an assurance to discuss with MTUC on the issue of Union diversity.
"Datuk M.Saravanan has agreed to conduct further discussions in the near future to ensure that the amendment to the Trade Union Act 1959 2022 runs smoothly," Kamarul said.
He also said strong support from the coalition unions to the efforts and amendments of the Trade Union Act was highly expected.
The MTUC 42nd Delegates Conference will be held at Ungku Aziz Auditorium, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya.
