SHAH ALAM - Additional Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) aid will be paid in stages from June 27, says the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob when announcing the additional aid said that the move was decided in order to help the people reduce their burden following the increase in the price of goods and high cost of living.
"This is to help the people reduce their burden as a result of the increase in the price of goods as a whole, especially the price of chicken.
"As we know, BKM is a direct cash assistance initiative announced in the 2022 Budget for the benefit of the B40 group.
"To date, a total of 8.6 million BKM recipients have been approved with households expected to receive up to RM2,500 in 2022,” he said in a special press conference today.
He added that there will be four phases to the highest amount of cash aid ever given by the government in Malaysia, with varying amounts according to the category.
He said the government would provide additional assistance of RM100 for households and RM50 for singles.
"The payment for the second phase of BKM involves an allocation of RM1.11 billion and each BKM recipient receives up to RM400 according to their respective BKM qualification categories, which will be totalled to RM500 with the additional cash aid.
"The additional cash aid included in the second phase of BKM involves an additional allocation of RM630 million,” he added.
