Zuraida quits Bersatu, joins PBM

Bersatu Cabinet minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin says she will meet the prime minister as soon as possible over her resignation.
SHAH ALAM - Bersatu Cabinet minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin has quit Bersatu to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

In a statement, she said: "I will meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as soon as possible to discuss my resignation as Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister."

She further said she will discuss with Ismail Sabri the role and direction of PBM to strengthen the Keluarga Malaysia government.

"I have full confidence in the wisdom of the Prime Minister," said the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister.

Zuraida is in Turkey for the opening ceremony of the Seventh Pioneers Conference for the Global Women's Coalition for Al-Quds and Palestine and is expected to return to Malaysia on June 2 after participating in the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) for the Business Mission and Development of the Malaysian Timber Market.

PBM was launched on Dec 21 with Julau MP and party president Larry Sng of Julau and Tebrau MP Steven Choong and five assemblymen.

Bersatu, headed by president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, will have 31 MPs.

She added after in-depth consideration, she decided to join PBM as she is attracted to its core principles of multiracial engagement, women empowerment, youth empowerment, economic development, education and the advancement of science and technology as elements to make Malaysia a developed country.

Zuraida had further said her stance as the MP for Ampang was in line with that of PBM's to support Putrajaya led by Ismail Sabri.

Zuraida has been the Ampang MP for 14 years.
