KOTA BHARU - Pas has revealed that the personal agenda of some Umno leaders was the cause of the stir in the cooperation between the two parties through Muafakat Nasional (MN).
Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said Umno must immediately resolve the problem to enable the cooperation through MN to return to its original path.
"We are not waiting for Umno’s decision in making MN's decision, but Pas was hoping that the Umno leadership would reconsider it for the benefit of the ummah and the country through the MN cooperation,” he said when met by reporters at the Kelantan Pas Aidilfitri open house at Dataran Warisan Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV here on Thursday.
According to him, Pas has never made a decision to part ways with Umno in MN.
Mohd Amar further stressed that the one that had decided on splitting with MN was the Kelantan Umno.
He said apart from that, the Terengganu Umno was among the first groups that wanted to go against Pas in the state.
"Mursyidul Am (Datuk Hashim Jasin) has made a statement that Pas and MN will still remain together.
"Right now, the problem in Umno (statement related to MN which are often seen as contradictory) is not from Pas," he said.
He admitted that Pas has never closed the door to negotiate with any party as long as it puts Islam and Malays as the mainstay.
In another development, the Kelantan deputy Menteri Besar said it was up to the Cabinet to make decisions related to the party's anti-hopping law.
"I understand that the matter involves several technical aspects. The party does not have the power to make decisions, so we leave it to the Cabinet.
"Basically, Pas agrees with this law," he added.
