Fire destroys eight double-storey shops in Sarikei

SARIKEI - Eight units of double-storey wooden shop houses at Jalan Industri here were destroyed in a fire last night.

Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station chief Mahmudin Narudin, when contacted, said the fire was believed to have started at 7pm and spread quickly due to the wooden structure of the building.

However, there was no report of a casualty.

The affected shops included a car workshop and a welding shop, he said, adding that a team from the station and another from the Bintangor fire and rescue station rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.31pm.

He said the fire was brought under control at 11.33pm and the operation was completed at 2.48am today. - BERNAMA
