PUTRAJAYA – Director-General of the Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) Malaysia Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusof calls Muslims to treasure the Quran and make it part of their daily lives.

Hakimah said the Quran is a holistic guide for religion and daily lives, not just the practise of worship.

"Today, people talk about living standards but the best guideline is the one that comes directly from Allah S.W.T.

"For this Ramadan, we should take advantage of the miracles of the Quran and nurture good practices, including interacting with the Quran. We have the right to read, recite, tadabbur, understand the meaning and practise the Quran.

"What is more important is how we understand and apply the messages of the Quran,” she said when met at her office in Putrajaya recently.

Jakim is the patron of the 7th #QuranHour organised by Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation (WUIF). World #QuranHour will be held tomorrow (April 26), Malaysia #QuranHour on Aug 30 and World #QuranConvention on December 17 and 18.

Hakimah said World #QuranHour has successfully promoted the culture of reading the Quran among Muslims.

This year, the Al-Sajdah verse was chosen for the Quranic movement campaign to build a value system through the Quran and hadith (Thematic & Reconstruct).

"The Al-Sajdah verse six to nine stated how Allah S.W.T knows the unseen, and he is mighty and the loving. Allah is the most powerful, He created everything in the universe and began the creation of men from clay.

"If we look at our origin (from clay), we are not worthy of any respect but Allah gave us soul to increase our dignity. However, only some of us are grateful.

"Gratefulness is essential and it brings us closer to Allah. He provides us with various resources, including our sense of hearing, sight, and others so that we can live.

"If an individual is not aware of his dependence is only on Allah, it is like he is being cruel to himself,” Hakimah said.
