SHAH ALAM - Malaysia continues to record a downward trend in new cases with only 5,899 new infections detected in the last 24 hours.

This is comparative to the 6,069 cases detected the previous day and 7,140 cases on April 20, with daily cases now well below the 10k mark in recent days.

However, the Klang Valley, which comprises Selangor and Kuala Lumpur still recorded the majority of cases with 4,288 new Covid-19 cases detected in the last 24 hours.

The nation also recorded five new fatalities including only one brought in dead cases.

To date, there have been 35,470 fatalities related to Covid-19 since the pandemic began, with 7,509 of them being brought in dead cases.

Meanwhile, Klang Valley and Perak also have the highest number of deaths caused by Covid-19 with the recorded amount of 35 and 29 deaths respectively in the last 14 days.

In terms of vaccination rate, Klang Valley continues to lead with 96.9 per cent, followed by Penang and Negeri Sembilan with 88.7 per cent and 86.5 per cent, respectively.

To date, the country has administered 69,872,350 doses of vaccines since the national immunisation programme started last year.

According to the CovidNow website, a total of 572,744 children aged between five to 11 years or 16.1 per cent of the age group total population have completed their vaccination as of yesterday.

A total of 1,447,377 children of the same age group have also received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
