SHAH ALAM - A nationwide tour. In depth discussions and finally vocal activists Adam Adli reached a decision to contest for the PKR Youth chief post.
He had the nationwide tour to seek feedback.
"There was a lot of confidence and support shown for me to contest the top youth post.
"It was then I decided that it would be unfair to my comrades if I sat at the sidelines.," he told Sinar Daily.
Adam, known to be a vocal activist is not new to the political scene.
In 2010, he was actively involved in demonstrations during his university years, leading a student movement to hold protest infront of the national mosque.
The protests held with Kamil Munim, who will contesting for the youth deputy's post, and they protested in front of several public universities the following year carrying banners bearing pictures of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"I was suspended from university for 3 terms after I brought down the flag of Najib Razak, which should have ended in 2013 but then I was arrested under the Sedition Act which caused my indefinite suspension," he said.
He won the case before the change of Pakatan Harapan government in 2018 which saw his suspension from university was lifted.
In 2021, he joined PKR.
Adam was recently questioned by the police over #TangkapAzamBaki rally, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Datuk Seri Azam Baki over trade share saga.
Adam Adli's views on Anwar
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim won the top seat uncontested for 2022/2025 PKR polls.
Adam said the outcome is expected as everyone in PKR know that Anwar is needed to strengthen the party.
"We need a stronger team and despite sentiments out there (to give way to younger candidates), everyone in PKR will agree Anwar's leadership is needed.
"So the question of him leading or not does not even arise,” he told Sinar Daily at an interview with Sinar Daily at Kompleks Karangkraf.
Kamil who was also present during the interview said he is of the same view as Anwar’s leadership is vital for the party's survival.
"Winning uncontested is a sign as it shows there is a strong support within PKR for Anwar.
"We need him to lead this party and this election is a process for us to strengthen the structure and organisation of PKR. There’s nothing to dispute about that,” Kamil added.
PKR party elections will be held in May.
